I bought my first computer, a PC that Minnesota State University, Mankato required, in August 2007. After getting into my major and now working with only Macs, I feel the schools requirement forced me to waste my money on an expensive computer worth no value to me. There are many programs that I can only access on a Mac, which makes finishing homework difficult at home. Not to mention, the limited amount of Macs available on campus. Because of the programs I have been using, I am wondering if I should switch to a Mac? As of now, I feel that it might be in my best interest to spend the money on a computer that is going to do more for me. Jim Santori, from the Mankato Free Press also mentioned that he was pleased with his Mac. I feel that a PC is more valuable for a business student, and a MAC for a student working with InDesign programs, etc.
As for the limited amount of Macs available to students, I feel MNSU should consider putting some Macs in the library. The library is open until 2 a.m., which would be great for students who can’t get to the ACC lab before it closes at 10 p.m.
